24 x 48 inches
oil and collage on cradled panel

The painting is based on a photo of mine, taken of one the lion guardians in front of a Chinese temple. In China, there are typically 2 lions that stand guard, one male and one female. While each look similar, the male lion has a paw on a sphere, the female lion has her paw on a lion cub. If you look carefully, you can see some of the original collage layer showing through in some areas. I liked the idea of the beauty of the statue sort of spreading out into space, represented by the decorative element that merges in and out of the lion.
